He also talked about his interest in open-ness and showed pics of wireframes that he keeps on Flickr. During the discussion afterwards it became obvious that there's a lot that the Brighton design community could learn from each other, in terms of what we do and the way that we do it.

There are a multitude of digital media companies in Brighton, and many different networking groups. However, there are very few opportunities to talk in detail about design - both theory and practice. Let's see how many people we can get together to form an informal group of user experience / interaction / web designers. The aim would be to meet on a semi-regular basis - maybe using the 20x20 Pecha Kucha presentation format, maybe just bringing in problems / concepts or whatever to discuss in an atmosphere of open collaboration.

If you're interested please put down your name and feel free to add / edit bits to this wiki. They've helped transform a car clogged rat-run into an area used primarily by pedestrians. They've done this by removing the street furniture that is associated with cars - a kerb that defines the boundary of road and pavement, street signs, road markings etc. This changes the look of the street, to the point that drivers either don't use the street because they think they shouldn't, or else are so inhibited that they drive very slowly and cautiously. The partnership is now due to start a similar process in the Black Lion area. I'd like to hear about the process and ethos behind this approach, how it's being used elsewhere and how success is measured.

Heathrow, T5
It'd be good to hear from anyone involved in planning the launch - if they're not in hiding. It sort of fits under the umbrella of UX Brighton and Danny suggested I put something on here so here it is. I'm happy to chat about this on Tuesday if more people are interested.

I have spoken to a couple of people and think there is enough interest for one group. Hopefully there will be enough for a couple of groups.

The format I'm proposing would be something like this. Five or six people in a group('s) that meet every week or possibly every other week meet for a critique lasting two hours (twenty minutes per person) lead by one member of the group. The group leader is responsible for ensuring that the critique's stay on topic and comments are constructive and relevant. This would go on for nine sessions or so.

Ideally there will be more than one group. The group would then split up and swap half and half with another group and start the whole process again. The idea of swapping groups is that knowledge / processes people are using is shared in the group will then be dissipated throughout the UX community quickly. I'm not sure how it will work and or how feasible this is at the moment, and will require the people in the group to commit to turn up to at least the sessions for that particular round. I think the critique's should be run on the basis of Chatham rules. Thanks to Tom for inspiration here.

I still need ideas for when and where to run the crits. If anyone wants to add something feel free.

There's a good post on Scott Berkun's blog about how to run a critique that worth a look.

So if you would be interested, put you name down here for the time being.

Who's interested in taking part?

Jenni Lloyd (especially now I've read that Scott Berkun post)

Buttons

Stick a UX Brighton button on your site

It looks like this:

Here's the code:
<a href="http://uxbri.org.uk" title="the User Experience Brighton homepage"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2070/2420401367_235da9ddef.jpg" style="width:194px; height=46px" alt="UX Brighton – Brighton's user experience community"></a>

Critters

Add your name to the list below if you want to be a critter.

Gavin Wye
